Folk/roots group Newworldson was the winningest artist at GMA Canada’s 34th Annual Covenant Awards held on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Crossroads Centre in Burlington, Ontario. The band won in four categories, including Song of the Year for its hit single “Learning to Be the Light.”
Newworldson was nominated in nine categories, leading this year’s nominees behind worship artist Jon Bauer. The quartet also took awards for Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year (“Learning to Be the Light”), Urban/R&B/Soul Song of the Year (“Shake Holy Spirit”) and Folk/Roots Album of the Year (Rebel Transmission).
Newworldson’s Mark Rogers comments, “We are honored to once again be acknowledged by GMA Canada. Congratulations to the other nominees, winners and organizers for putting on such a great show.”
In addition to recognition as an awards nominee and recipient, Newworldson performed alongside the Toronto Mass Choir, who received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The program aired Nov. 10 on CTS.
